Discover the Joy of Writing Abroad

We invite writers of all levels of experience and of all genres to travel with us to amazing and inspiring places around the world.

There are no criteria for acceptance other than a desire to discover during a week of creative expression. The days will include a mix of writing, sharing, short excursions, and discussions about craft. The writing sessions will inspire you to tap into your creative spirit, awaken your powers of observation and find your voice. You can choose to participate in any or all of the writing programs.

Words in Play is proud to collaborate with Compass Travel, whose specialty is escorted tours, to find ideal settings to ignite your muse.

ToucanTropical rainforest, colorful flora, turquoise water, exotic wildlife—Belize beckons.

Once again, Words in Play is teaming up with Holly Walker of Compass Travel to offer a Writer’s Retreat in a very special place that will fill your need for color during the deep dark months of winter!

Beautiful Belize: A Writer’s Retreat — February 25-March 4, 2012 — Join us for a writing retreat in the tropical paradise of Central America’s most beautiful locales. We will be immersed in the lush fauna and flora of Belize where inspiration will surround us in vibrant color—bright oranges, deep purples, blazing reds, a zillion shades of green, azure and turquoise. What a sensory delight!

Deb now manages the communications for Biodiversity Research Institute and will be taking the group to one of their conservation research sites in Belize. We will be treated to an extraordinary experience including a special guided night walk that promises to be unforgettable.

Past Trips to Italy

Tell a Tuscan Story was amazing. I am more aware of what possibilities exist for writing ideas. I can step out my door, and with the knowledge gained in Deb's exercises, write what I see. With her guiding exercises, I can see so much more! I would absolutely recommend her travel retreats; her attention to detail in both the comfort level of the participants and in the workshops was professional, courteous, and seamless.”
